To play or not to play?

April 26th, 2011 No comments

I haven’t officially declared the end of my SNE chase…yet. It’s most likely over, but I want to wait a little bit longer in case a miracle happens and Pokerstars can once again allow Americans to play.

So in the meantime, I have been looking into other sites to play online poker. For US players, the main options available now are Bodog, the Cake network, and the Merge network. The volume at these sites are only a small fraction of the volume at Pokerstars or Full Tilt (even after PS/FT’s largest market has been stripped from them). But since I have no intentions of relocating to Cananda, it’s the only viable option if I want to play poker. I will post updates if I do end up playing on one of these sites.

Check out the following post by poker pro Hunter Bick which helps explain why the smaller sites are still operating in the US market:

Hold’em Manager maintenance

April 14th, 2011 No comments

Been working on my hold’em manager today and wanted to share what I did in case anyone else wasn’t aware of the following.

Multi-currency
I didn’t realize the Winnings column in the report tab did not handle multi-currency. The Winnings column does not convert EUR winnings to USD so it would be off if you play the euro tables. You need to add new colums to show the winnings in either USD or EUR.
Add multi-currency winnings

SQL Log files
I had about 45 gb of log files in my PostgreSQL folder. These log files are unnecessary and take up alot of hard drive space. Follow these instructions to remove them and stop PostgreSQL from creating the log files.
Remove SQL Log files

Database maintenance
Don’t forget to vacuum analyse & reindex your database. Not sure what this does exactly but it is supposed to improve performance.
Vacuum Analyze database

Poker Update
Failing big time on volume. I probably won’t be able to hit my April goal of playing 300k hands. Poker is getting a little monotonous and it’s been hard putting in long sessions. Hopefully I can pick things up in the 2nd half of the month.

March 2011 wrap up

April 1st, 2011 2 comments

Hands played: 258,903
VPPs earned: 91,626.98
Profit (Loss): (-$2,888.37)

Sigh, what can I say. Another very disappointing month – it’s beginning to sound like a broken record. I started off the month super hot, then took a nose dive and made a small rebound at the end of the month. If ev means anything, I am at -$59.68 ev. So I ran 28 buyins below ev for March. I didn’t play as much as I’d like. To be honest it’s been tough grinding when I’m losing.

For April, I’d like to at least set a goal for hands played.

April Goals
[ ] Play 300,000 hands

Life
Haven’t progressed at all in my weight goal, still around 140 lbs. I’ll have to make a conscious effort to eat more and start weight lifting in April.

Hope everyone is doing good. GL.

Very happy I won a milestone hand. I am pretty far behind my VPP goal this month because I went to Paris for a few days last week and when I got back I was jetlagged and didn’t play much. I’ll post an update on my progress after March is over.
